The Arlec Energy Cost Meter is designed to measure the energy use of household electrical appliances, giving you a better idea of the true cost of ownership for your most used appliances. The Arlec Energy Cost Meter:
- Measures energy use of household electrical appliances
- Calculates running cost of household appliances
- Displays voltage, current, power, power used and cost
- Helps save energy by identifying appliances with high energy consumption so that their use can be more efficiently managed
No computer at home? Borrow one from Newcastle Libraries! Our laptops also come with Microsoft Office installed so you can use Word and Excel from anywhere.

The C-Pen is a portable text to speech device that supports reading and learning. The scanning pen is great for anyone with reading difficulties such as dyslexia or learning English.
Use the Pen to scan words and listen to them spoken. It can help with pronunciation, comprehension and finding the meaning of words. It can be used with forms, instructions and books.
C-Pen features

- Looks up and reads out definitions of words in English, French and Spanish.
- No wifi required.
- Scans and stores text to replay.
Borrowing a C-Pen reader 2
- Available to all adult library members to borrow for a period of 4 weeks (no renewal) from our Wallsend and City Libraries.
- Ask about the C-Pen in our libraries or go to our catalogue to reserve.
- Items are issued and are to be returned to the concierge desk in branch.
- We welcome feedback on the device, please add your comments to the feedback form in the kit.
- The C-Pen is a fragile item. Damaged or lost items will incur a replacement and processing fee.
