Adamstown Library temporary closure: Adamstown Library was recently closed to facilitate the replacement of carpet. During the process it was discovered the old carpet tiles were stuck to the vinyl underlay that upon testing, was found to contain asbestos.

Following best practice safety guidelines, the hazard will be removed, and new carpet will be installed.

Adamstown Library will remain closed until all work is completed, with City of Newcastle working to reopen the facility as soon as possible.

Picnic Day - Limited Library services: Friday 29 November is City of Newcastle Picnic Day. Limited Library services will be available. Newcastle and Wallsend libraries will be open 9.30am-5pm. Normal hours resume on Saturday 30 November. Lambton Library’s Open+ technology will provide access for library members aged 16 and up, and those aged under 16 accompanied by an adult or carer, anytime between 7am and 9pm on the public holiday. Please see the Lambton Library page for further information regarding library member access to this library.

Return chutes will be open at all libraries (except Lambton). Members can renew borrowed items and access the Library's digital collections via the Newcastle Libraries app or website.
