Library Christmas Closure
Our libraries will be closed from 12pm on Tuesday 23 December for the holiday period. Regular hours will resume at Newcastle and Wallsend Libraries from Saturday 3 January. Regular hours at all our other libraries will resume from Monday 5 January.
Return chutes will be closed during this period and will reopen with libraries on the above dates.
Lambton Library’s Open+ technology will provide access for library members aged 16 and up (and those aged under 16 accompanied by an adult or carer) anytime between 7am and 9pm, seven days a week through the holiday period.
Please note that holds placed between 23 December and 5 January will not be available for collection during this time.
Our digital collections including e-books, e-audio, magazines and movies, will be available 24/7 via the Newcastle Libraries app or website for all your summer reading needs. -

Big Summer Read - keep kids reading over summer!
The Big Summer Read challenges you to pick up a book and keep reading over the holidays. Anyone between the ages of 0-18 is welcome to participate. The Big Summer Read Challenge runs from Monday 1 December 2025 to Saturday 31 January 2026. -
