Home Library Service

The Home Library Service is a free service for people who cannot easily visit a library. We deliver library items from our collection directly to your home.

Who can use this service?

You can join the Home Library Service if you live in the City of Newcastle local government area and you cannot visit the library because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • Poor health or limited mobility
  • Disability
  • Frailty or older age
  • Living in a residential care facility
  • Caring responsibilities
  • Being a new parent.

What you can borrow

Home Library Service members can borrow up to 15 items each month, including:

  • Books (including large print)
  • Audiobooks
  • DVDs
  • Magazines
  • Music CDs
  • Materials in your language
  • Access to eLibrary and other online resources.

How the service works

A selection of items will be delivered to your home once a month.

You can choose how your items are selected. You can either select your own items or tell us what you enjoy reading, watching or listening to and our team will choose for you.

We will deliver your items to your home on an agreed day each month and collect your previous month’s items at the same time.

How to join

You can contact us yourself or ask someone to contact us for you. This may include a friend, family member, carer or care organisation staff member.
