Can’t find the publication you are looking for? We can request books, articles and more from other libraries through our Interlibrary Loans service. To use this service, you need to have a current Newcastle Libraries membership. Not a member? Join now.
Before placing an Interlibrary Loan request, please check our online catalogue to see if the item you would like is held in our library. If it is not held, then complete and submit our online request form.

FAQs - Interlibrary Loans
- Books published more than two years ago
- Copies of journal and newspaper articles
- Copies of information or chapters from motor manuals
- Copies of information or chapters from other resources
Other formats may be available at the supplying library's discretion e.g. DVDs.
While items may be available in other libraries across Australia, supply is subject to the discretion of the lending library.
- Books published less than two years ago
- Magazines and periodicals
- Material held in our collection
- Obsolete media formats e.g. video cassettes
If your request is not suitable for interlibrary loan and is a recent publication, consider submitting a purchase suggestion.
Items can be requested by completing this form or ask at your local library.
A fee applies to each interlibrary loan item supplied and must be paid at the time of collection.
- The standard supply fee for a physical item may range from $15.00 to $37.40
- Scanned copies of journal articles or book chapters may be supplied, with fees calculated on an individual basis
We will advise you of the final cost before proceeding with your request.
We will always endeavour to supply the item for the lowest possible fee.
No fee is charged if the item cannot be sourced or if the request is cancelled prior to shipment.
Interlibrary loans usually take between two to four weeks to arrive. You will be notified when the item is ready for collection at your nominated branch.
Payment is required before borrowing the item.
The length of time you can keep an item is determined by the supplying library and is generally between two and six weeks.
Renewals may be available and are subject to the discretion of the supplying library. If a renewal is required, please email [email protected] or phone 02 4904 3326 before the due date.
Library members are responsible for any interlibrary loan items that are lost or damaged. Replacement charges are determined by the owning library.
