We offer digital books, movies, newspapers and learning tools in many different languages to help you stay connected, keep learning and enjoy stories in your language. To use these services, you’ll need to be a Newcastle Libraries member. Join online now or visit one of our library branches

Ebooks and Audiobooks 

Indyreads from the State Library has a growing collection of eBooks and audiobooks in Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian and Vietnamese, plus smaller collections in other languages. 

Use the Indyreads app or website and go to Search > Browse by Language to see what’s available. 

Movies

Stream movies and documentaries in different languages with subtitles through Kanopy

Newspapers and Magazines 

Read newspapers and magazines from around the world. Download issues to your device, read in the Pressreader app or the app or read in a browser.  

 Language and Learning 

Want to improve your English, build digital skills or learn a new language? 

Our Language and Learning page brings together tools like AMES, Mango Languages, and Pimsleur ESL audiobooks. Many resources are beginner-friendly and some are available in multiple languages. 

Books in Your language

We can order books in languages other than English from the State Library of New South Wales. 

Use our online form to request a selection of up to 30 items. The titles are chosen based on your preferences and the availability of your selected language.


Frequently Asked Questions

Specific books cannot be ordered using this form. To request a specific book in your language, please use the Interlibrary Loan Request Form (fee applies).
Most orders arrive within three weeks. We’ll let you know if there’s a delay.
You can request a bulk loan of up to 30 books in another language through the State Library’s community languages collection.
Due to high demand for these items, a replacement fee may apply. Staff can advise you of the amount.
If your language isn’t listed, it’s not currently one of the 43 community languages available from the State Library. We will update the form if new languages are added.
The State Library processes one language per form. Please submit a separate form for each language.
Some branches don’t have space to store bulk loans. Lambton and the Digital Library are not available as pickup locations.
