Azuma and Yogoro
Azuma and Yogoro, two celebrated lovers c. 1798. This print is in the orthodox Ukiyo-e tradition of 'loving couples'. This plate illustrates the lingering Kiyonaga tradition - a Japanese Ukiyo-e artist of the Torii school - as well as the influence of Utamaro who replaced Kiyonaga as the leader of the Ukiyo-e school.
