6th Century
All of the beautiful specimens shown on this plate have been taken from the Golden Creek Canons of Eusebius, in the British Museum (Add. MSS*., No. 5111) one of the most important relics of the decoration school of Justinian the Great which time has spared to us. From its breadth of style and bold treatment of colour this MS. furnishes an excellent model for illuminators or decorators to study, reproduce, and improve upon.
*A manuscript is abbreviated MS for singular and MSS for plural.
