You’re invited to the launch of There Might Be Donuts, an anthology of student’s writing to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Newcastle’s The Creative Word Shop.

Over ten years, they have run more than 1000 kids’ writing workshops through in-school writing clubs and school holiday workshops. Their online writing clubs have reached as far as rural Victoria, while also running workshops for home school students, the students of the Royal Institute in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and being present at the opening of Barangaroo Park in Sydney. The workshops have been run by one of the co-founders Ed Wright with help from other local authors, most notably prolific kids’ book author Jess Black and comedian, Dave Gairdner.  In all they’ve taught writing to more than 5000 students.

"Our philosophy is that kids who enjoy writing get better at writing, and we're constantly being blown away by some of the great stuff our work shoppers come up with. Writing can be a bit like acting for shy people, so we encourage kids to share, but it's never compulsory,"  - Ed Wright, The Creative Word Shop co-founder.

The anthology of kids writing features about 40 young writers, who have come to one of the creative workshops at some stage.

Come along to hear from some budding new writers whose work is a sample of the breadth of imagination among young people and their passion for stories and words.
